Got questions?
What do I get at Whispers that I won’t get other places?
Simply put, you get a photographer who captures what is excellent and unique about your children and family. When parents remember their kids’ infancy and childhood, they remember the curiosity, adventurousness, sweetness, and talents for trouble…so much more than just a pose and fake smile. Kristin uses children’s natural qualities and gifts (made more vivid through lighting, backgrounds, props, clothes, and an experienced eye) to create gorgeous art that connects with the true spirit of each child and family. This art is extraordinary and meaningful, the kind of thing that will be saved and passed down to future generations…every child will want to remember their childhood the way it comes through in Kristin’s pictures.
When can we come in?
Call the office manager to schedule an appointment – we typically book about 3 weeks in advance.
- MATERNITY SESSIONS: It’s best to book by the beginning of the sixth month so that we can book a session during your seventh or eighth month.
- NEWBORN SESSIONS: Newborn sessions are best when the baby is two weeks old or younger. We can reserve a spot based on the due date and just stay flexible.
- Most sessions, including consultations, are scheduled before 2 p.m. – exceptions are made if needed.
- Most sessions with babies and small children are scheduled in the morning so everyone is in the happiest mood possible.
How long is a typical session?
The following are just general guidelines for planning. Some sessions go quickly, and some take a longer time to get just the right pictures. But since people need to plan…
- Pre-session consultations: 30-45 minutes
- Newborn sessions: 1-3 hours
- Children’s session: 1-2 hours
- On-location sessions: 30 min. to 1 hour
- Viewing/ordering: 1 hour
How long will it take to get my pictures?
Viewing and ordering takes place 2 weeks after a session is complete, then it can take anywhere from 3-6 weeks for the order to arrive (depending on what was ordered and how busy the vendors are).
If you need pictures in time for a special event, such as Christmas or a grandparent’s birthday, schedule the session for 12 weeks in advance just to make sure. Here are some of the most popular events:
- By Mother’s Day (Mid-May): First week of March
- By Father’s Day (Mid-June): First week of April
Can you do special requests?
Yes, we LOVE new ideas!! However, they don’t always work as customers hope. The key to success is being prepared. Bring it up at the consultation or call ahead so you can discuss it with Kristin.
What should we wear for pictures?
- That depends on many things – personal taste, skin tones, setting (indoors or outside), and more. More than anything, the outfits must be comfortable. No stiff or starchy clothes.
- If you want a casual feel to the pictures, blue jeans usually photograph really well – especially when they’re with solid-color shirts.
- It helps if family members’ outfits are similar or identical colors.
- If there are special outfits that you want included, let Kristin know so she can consider how to capture everyone most favorably.
Where can I get some cool clothes for the session?
- In Madison: Posh Mommy
- In the Huntsville area: Gymboree, The Gap, Children’s Place
- Online: Hanna Andersson, Janie and Jack, Chasing Fireflies, Olive Juice,The Wooden Soldier , Mini Boden, Talbots Kids, Garnet Hill, Baby Rock
What if the kids don’t behave well?
- First and foremost, the whole point is to let kids be kids. Whispers’ pictures are meant to capture their reality. There’s no need to stress perfection when real life is what’s best.
- There are several things parents can do to help their kids be their glowing best: feed them before the appointment, have some low-mess snacks on hand (to preserve outfits and faces) and have drinks on hand, preferably in a no-spill cup.
- Occasionally, we can use our stash of bribes to help direct kids’ attention for a while.
- If disaster strikes and absolutely nothing is going right, we can always try again at a time that’s convenient for everyone.
